Introduction
This talk delves into the complex portrayals of migration and diaspora in film and television, examining how stories reflect themes of identity, nostalgia and dislocation. Through diverse narratives, filmmakers capture the emotional journeys of navigating new worlds while grappling with the pull of characters’ homelands. The screen becomes a space to explore the tension between belonging and alienation, and memory and adaptation. From moments of longing for a lost past to the challenges of forging new identities, these portrayals reveal the multifaceted experiences of migrants and diaspora communities.
Join us as we unpack how cinema shapes and reflects the ongoing dialogue around migration, offering insight into the personal and cultural landscapes of displacement.
