A love triangle between three young people (including Isabella Rossellini, in her first leading role) is the launch pad for this unusual story, exploring sexual politics and social change in the 1970s. It also sees the Tavianis pay homage to their greatest influence, Roberto Rossellini, and his 1948 drama Germany, Year Zero.
