Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival, this heart-rending but ultimately inspiring film tells the true story of Gavino, a Sardinian shepherd‘s son, who fights for his right to self-determination and independence from the brutal dominance of his father. Making the most of its harsh, pastoral setting, this enduring classic launched the Tavianis on the international stage.
Restored by Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale and by Cinecittà S.p.A. at the laboratory at Cinecittà S.p.A.
Please note, this film contains scenes of animal cruelty and violence towards a child.
