Introduction

From the mysterious femme fatale to the tough-as-nails final girl, genre movies have given us some unforgettable female characters. While the final girl outwits, outlasts, and ultimately takes down the killer, the femme fatale dominates the game and takes control, manipulates and often leaves a trail of destruction in her wake. Using clips from a range of films, we’ll explore the femme fatale’s mix of charm, mystery, and danger alongside the final girl’s grit and survival instincts and what both archetypes reveal about shifting ideas of gender, power and identity in genre cinema.

Hosted by Isaura Barbé-Brown, actress and writer.
