Introduction
From the end of the 19th century to the late 1920s, silent cinema relied on expressive gestures, facial expressions and movement to communicate emotion and meaning. Stars of the era like Charlie Chaplin, Lillian Gish, Buster Keaton and Mary Pickford became masters of this form, conveying complex emotions and information without uttering a word.
By combining the principles of silent film with the strengths of non-verbal communication, this workshop offers a unique and engaging experience for participants, empowering them to express themselves creatively and connect with others through visual storytelling. You’ll learn techniques like mime, expressive body language and heightened facial gestures to bring your own stories to life, without speaking a word. Together, we’ll create short silent film scenes in a playful and accessible space, connecting through the shared language of movement and visual expression.
This event is especially suitable for Deaf and Disabled participants, including those who use British Sign Language and those who use non-verbal communication.
In partnership with Disability Advice Service Lambeth.
