Introduction
Desperate for work, Joseph Marti accepts the position of assistant to an inventor, unaware of the toll it will take on his life. The Sasnals’ meticulous drama draws from the era Walser wrote his novel but employs anachronisms – from its contemporary setting and use of music, such as The Smiths and Galaxie 500 – to articulately explore the notion of servitude.
