Perennial slacker Will spends his nights getting drunk with friends at the dicey dive bar he tends in New Orleans. Despite the occasional fight with his girlfriend Carrie, Will’s life is mostly free of stress. But after a violent bar brawl breaks out one night, Will comes across an abandoned cell phone amongst the bloody wreckage. As he tries to return the mobile to its rightful owner, mysterious texts begin to appear, slowly enveloping both himself and Carrie into a twisted web of ritual violence and unspeakable malevolence. Adapted from Nathan Ballingrud’s novella ‘The Visible Filth’, Babak Anvari’s sweat-soaked fever dream delivers a spellbinding mix of pitch-perfect genre scares and unnerving ambiguity that slowly burrows its way under your skin and refuses to leave.
