Nicknamed ‘Vanilla’ for her wimpy ways, police-school dropout Maggie gets a masterclass in assertiveness from an anarchist avenging angel on the streets of Berlin. When anti-capitalist renegade Tiger takes Maggie under her wing, she cannot know the repressed reserves of power in the seemingly harmless girl. What has she unleashed?! The city of Berlin glistens as the third character, with the film's heightened realism spanning squats, shopping malls and neon-hued backdrops for the duo’s DIY justice. Building on the promise of his 2014 debut Love Steaks, Jakob Lass excels at shooting violence like no other, bringing a playful and critical wit to the short sharp shocks. The pleasures of seeing women fighting back are also a provocation to audiences – is this what you want to see? When it’s delivered with such unexpected humour and a fresh, energising filmmaking style, the answer is most definitely YES!
The introduction/Q&A will be BSL interpreted at the screening on Thu 5 Oct.
