The Daily Show host Jon Stewart joins London-based journalist Maziar Bahari in this Debate Talk following the European Premiere screening of Rosewater. Stewart’s striking directorial debut is based on the real life ordeal of Bahari who was arrested, and detained for 118 days, whilst reporting for the BBC on the Iranian elections in 2009. Stewart, who is renowned for his incisive, satirical commentary on contemporary politics, makes an impressive shift into dramatic filmmaking with Rosewater. Bahari, who is a respected documentarian and political activist, wrote the memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival on which it is based. They come together to discuss the story behind the film and the important roles of journalism and satire in upholding freedom of speech.

This event will be hosted by Jane Corbin.
