This heart-felt portrait of Australia’s beloved film critic includes tributes from Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Geoffrey Rush, George Miller and many more. Deftly combining interview footage, archive material and clips from over 100 Australian films, filmmaker Sally Aitken traces British-born Stratton’s journey from the Wiltshire town of Melkham, through his years as director of the Sydney Film Festival (1966-83), to his impressive career as film critic and TV personality (most notably his 28-year stint with on-air sparring partner Margaret Pomeranz). Stratton in turn details his passion for Australian cinema, telling his own fascinating story through deeper analysis of classic Australian films such as Wake in Fright, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Mad Max, Muriel’s Wedding and Samson & Delilah. This testament to the legacy of a man whose contribution to film culture had a significant impact on the Australian film industry is essential viewing for film lovers.
