An old bear is awkened from hibernation by a showman and his assistant, who stumble into his cave to escape the snow. They tell him how, once upon a time, bear prince Tonio went missing and this loss, combined with a lack of food, led the bear king and his subjects to approach the humans for help. However, mankind mistook this for a hostile invasion. With a wizard playing both sides, nothing goes to plan. This children’s classic is joyous depicted by Lorenzo Mattotti, who makes each frame look like a work of art. Beautifully executed, it presents a compelling story that works on different levels depending on the age of the viewer.
