When the violent leader of an Australian motorcycle gang gets out of prison, his deputy must choose between loyalty and family. In the wake of Animal Kingdom and Snowtown comes this old-school crime story, involving feuds and allegiances in a contemporary Australian setting. It opens with Paddo (Ryan Corr) running motorcycle gang The Copperheads, which he has done since its de facto leader Knuck (a terrifying turn by screenwriter and ex-professional rugby league footballer Matt Nable) went to jail. Just as the boss is about to be released, Paddo’s brother is caught stealing heroin from a rival gang. He only escapes with his life on condition that the two gangs work together – something Knuck would never agree to. What ensues is almost Shakespearean, with its tale of loyalty and double-crossing, as Paddo decides whether to oust Knuck in order to save his sibling.
