In the near future, after aliens have attacked our planet, William Cage, a military PR man with no combat skills, finds himself dumped on the battlefield. Through a twist of fate, he is forced to relive the same day every time he dies until he can find a way to destroy his adversaries. It is hugely enjoyable to see Cruise playing a rookie solider out of his depth, especially against Blunt’s relentless elite warrior, with whom he shares a sparkling chemistry.

A fresh take on the time romp and Groundhog Day narrative, Edge of Tomorrow is a rollercoaster in every sense of the word. The film delivers on enough thrills to satiate anyone with an appetite for the traditional sci-fi flash and bang. But in embracing the complexities of its characters, the film also offers up a compelling emotional arc, through inventive storytelling and the creation of a gripping alternate reality.
