Sandra Bullock plays scientist Dr Ryan Stone, who finds herself trapped above the Earth when the debris from a destroyed satellite, travelling at the speed of a bullet, tears apart her spacecraft. Using all her wits, Stone tries to figure out a way to get home before the orbiting debris returns. Employing state-of-the-art visual effects and digital 3D technology, Alfonso Cuáron creates a white-knuckle-ride of a film that is also breathtakingly beautiful and questions our place within the vast expanse of the universe.
