Shy Totsuko sees people as colours. She’s attracted to fellow pupil Kimi’s blue aura, but becomes confused when her crush unexpectedly leaves school. Her search for Kimi finds Totsuko joining an unlikely trio, and their experiences soon teach them some valuable life lessons.

This latest gem from filmmaker Naoko Yamada (Liz and the Blue Bird, A Silent Voice) cements her standing as one of the most exciting and distinctive animation directors of her generation. Once more she returns to her favourite themes of awkward youngsters, transcendent emotions, and the universal power of music to bring people together. But here she adds new strings to her bow: delicately exploring youthful rebellion within the confines of a strict Catholic boarding school, with a resplendent colour palette that mirrors the characters’ emotional journeys.

Yamada’s films are feasts for the eyes, ears and soul. Don’t miss your chance to experience this musical and joyously colourful animation on the UK’s largest screen first.

This special screening will be introduced by Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham, co-hosts of the podcast Ghibliotheque and co-authors of The Ghibliotheque Anime Movie Guide, which charts a path through the wildly creative and influential anime industry with 30 standout feature films, from Akira to Your Name. Following the screening, Jake and Michael will be selling and signing copies of the Ghibliotheque Anime Movie Guide and their books Ghibliotheque: The Unofficial Guide to the Movies of Studio Ghibli and Ghibliverse: Studio Ghibli Beyond the Films.
