Cameron’s follow up to Ridley Scott’s masterpiece is more than a worthy sequel. It finds Ellen Ripley awakened after 57 years in deep sleep, only to discover that the planet populated by the species responsible for her crewmates’ deaths has been terraformed by humans. They have recently stopped all communications with Earth, so Ripley agrees to accompany a crack military unit to investigate. Wisely steering clear of the horror genre that made Scott’s original so unique, Cameron’s action blockbuster is a breathlessly kinetic and stunningly realised war movie.
