Kubrick’s monumental epic revolutionised how the immensity of the cosmos was depicted on film. It follows the progression of humankind from the dawn of mankind through to a realm beyond the known universe. Inexhaustible in its depths, the film’s warnings about the dangers of unbridled technology, via the sentient HAL 9000, feel particularly resonant. Screening for the very first time on Britain’s biggest cinema screen is this magnificent 15 perf/70mm IMAX print, created from the so-called ‘unrestored’ 70mm prints made in 2018, in an entirely photochemical process supervised and approved by Christopher Nolan. The ultimate trip indeed.
