Life’s a Drag (a celebration) with Jeffrey Hinton
An informal discussion and screening with the legendary London DJ, filmmaker and archivist.
An informal discussion and screening with the legendary London DJ, filmmaker and archivist featuring a collection of rare and unseen delights from his personal video vault in a special compilation, surveying clubland drag from the late 1970s to now. As a clubber, DJ and boy about town, Jeffrey was in a unique position to record behind the scenes. With a special focus on the explosion of drag performers and dress-up kids of the post-punk era, the film’s highlights include Hot Peaches, 80s Gay Pride, Taboo, Pink Panther, Heaven, Kinky Gerlinky, Wigstock, Rio Gay Carnival, Gay Bingo, Glastonbury and the only known footage of cult amateur Rose Marie. Following sell-out shows at the V&A and National Portrait Gallery, this is a rare opportunity to see Jeffrey’s recording of the drag (in all its forms) that defined a generation.
