Kate Bornstein is an author, playwright, performance artist, gender theorist, recovering Scientologist and pioneering gender outlaw. A somewhat controversial figure within the trans community (open letters have been written) Bornstein is a brilliant trouble-maker. If, like many queers around the world, you think of her as Auntie Kate you’ll want to see this film. If you’ve never heard of her then you really need to see this film! Come, have your mind expanded. Get permission to do whatever you need to do to make your life worth living, so long as you aren’t mean. Featuring archive clips of performances, family home movies and meetings with old friends, this movie takes us on the road with Kate, then back home again to her partner and many animals. Director Feder creates a beautiful, cinematic portrait which does its subject proud.
