Introduction

Cheryl Dunye emerged from the 1990s queer new wave with The Watermelon Woman, the first feature-length narrative by a Black lesbian that focused on women like herself. Throughout her career, Dunye has remained dedicated to expanding the representation of Black queer women, across multiple genres, in both film and television, as a writer, director, producer and actor, and always with a distinctive, groundbreaking voice.

Hosted by Allegra Madsen, Executive Director of Frameline.
