Pialat Shorts 1
Pialat’s varied and quirky early short films encompass documentary and fiction.
Total runtime 97min
Long before his feature debut, Pialat made two documentaries on religious subjects – Isabelle aux Dombes (1951) and Congrès eucharistique diocesain (1953) – and two fiction shorts, the mysterious L’Ombre familière (1958), and the prankish Droles de bobines (1957). L’Amour existe (1961) was a prize-winning look at the beauty and ugliness of Paris, while Janine (1962) tells a droll story of men and women, and was written by and starred Claude Berri.
