Around the same time as Italy’s neorealists, journalist-turned-Hollywood-producer Mark Hellinger was also experimenting with innovative location shooting. This, his final, most documentary-like film, follows two detectives as they investigate the death of a young woman. William Daniels’ cinematography vividly captures New York – perhaps unsurprisingly since photographer Weegee (Arthur Fellig) was on hand as visual consultant.
