For me, the nouvelle vague was a great inspiration and Jules et Jim was love at first sight (was it the film, or was it Jeanne Moreau’s beguiling Catherine?). With cinematic exuberance, and supported by a great cast, Raoul Coutard’s stunning cinematography and Georges Delerue’s succulent score, Truffaut explores complex relationships with humour and pathos, and reinvents the period movie.
