Dir Ken Loach
With Carol White, Terence Stamp, John Bindon
Carol White – the ‘Battersea Bardot’ – became a star in 1966 with TV play Cathy Come Home, directed by Ken Loach. A year later, the pair reunited for a film in which White delivered an even more electric performance as Joy, an 18-year-old single mother caught between social conventions, money problems and criminal boyfriends. The result has a thrilling, new-wave freshness.
