+ intro by Jez Stewart, Curator (Animation) BFI National Archive
An animated comic opera, plus a selection of Joy Batchelor shorts.
Dir Joy Batchelor
A witch’s curse, a lost brother, madness, ghosts, romance, a conjoined chorus of bridesmaids and a generous helping of ‘fiddle-de-dees.’ Remarkably, this adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera is only Britain’s second animated feature, directed by Joy Batchelor (co-director of the first). This rarely seen gem will be screened from video due to the lack of quality film prints.
