Liza Minnelli’s most memorable role is that of Sally Bowles, the fiery American cabaret singer who befriends and beds the shy, bisexual English academic Brian (York) in 1931 Berlin. Their bohemian love affair is set against the backdrop of an increasingly powerful Nazi movement. Cabaret is one of the most iconic musicals of all time, and both Minnelli’s performance and Fosse’s direction remain impressive to this day.
