Alexander Korda scored a major coup in getting Dietrich to star in this tale of a young Englishman (Donat) who falls in love with a Countess while caught up in the Russian revolution. It was Dietrich’s first British role and she is well served by Belgian director Feyder and the lively script adapted from James Hilton’s novel.
