The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Deborah Kerr and Roger Livesy star in a British Technicolor classic.
Dir Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger
With Deborah Kerr, Roger Livesey, Anton Walbrook
Kerr played Livesey’s muse and the object of his obsession in this Technicolor epic. Despite the valuable propaganda message to UK and US audiences, Blimp was almost banned by Churchill at script stage. Powell made the film against MOI advice and his adaptation of the popular comic strip character, depicting the travails of a career soldier out of step with modern warfare, is hailed as a humanist testament and one of the greatest British films ever made.
