France 1943
Dir Maurice Tourneur
With Pierre Fresnay, Josseline Gaël, Noël Roquevert, Palau
English subtitles

One dark and stormy night, a painter (Fresnay) stops at an inn and recounts the story of how he once bought a disembodied left hand from a man who said it would bring riches. The talisman brought the promised success, but at what cost? Tourneur’s gripping Faustian parable evokes the paranoia of Vichy France, as the artist becomes trapped in a diabolical web.
