Lampooning the Fuhrer

The Great Dictator

Don’t miss one of the greatest satirical comedies of all time, written, produced, directed by and starring Charlie Chaplin.

We are delighted to announce that Charlie Chaplin’s grandson, Spencer Chaplin, will now be introducing the screening on 4 December. Unfortunately, John Bishop is no longer able to attend.

The Great Dictator was written, produced and directed by Chaplin, who had just made the move from silent to sound films. Here he plays both a brutal dictator and a Jewish barber under persecution from a shocking regime. One of the greatest satirical comedies of all time, it’s a bittersweet affair that demonstrates how all subjects can be a source of comedy in the right hands.
