Racial barriers are tested in Kotcheff’s compellingly strange, rarely seen adaptation of David Stuart Leslie’s 1963 novel. Roddy (Phillips) is forced to confront his prejudices by new roommate Emjo (Frederick), a black Jamaican Oxford graduate. Look out for an incredible Notting Hill dancehall scene, and Holder’s predatory queen Marcus: a notable if rather troubling breakthrough for a black actor in a gay role.

The screening on Thursday 10 August 18:10 features a Q&A with actors Ram John Holder and Esther Anderson (work permitting).
