Read synopsis

Shades of Beckett in the absurdist wit applied to the fraught encounter of an odd couple (Pleasance and Dorléac) and the gangsters on the run who turn up at their private island love-nest. Humiliation, betrayal and destruction inevitably follow, and Polanski, while relishing the dramatic potential of the setting, observes the perverse, sometimes surreal altercations with beadily comic glee.

The screening on Sat 12 Jan will be introduced by Ewa Mazierska.
