Kamble (Sathidar) is a low caste poet-singer-activist who is tried for abetment to suicide after a sewer cleaner dies, apparently after listening to his song! Tamhane’s feature debut is an arthouse film that skewers the Indian judiciary and redefines what a Bombay film in Hindi (and other languages) can be. It deservedly won top prizes at Venice in 2014.
