If you love Tokyo Story you will also love Ozu’s earlier classic, another probing study of the Japanese family in transition. At 28, Noriko (Hara) lives in largely harmonious fashion with her parents and her brother’s family, but faces growing pressure to marry. Although the tone is lighter, gentler and more upbeat than Tokyo Story, this bittersweet and affecting film is still an emotional viewing experience.
