The Four Feathers
+ intro by Dr Emma Sandon, Birkbeck University of London
A young man is driven to prove his mettle after being branded a coward.
Dir Zoltan Korda
With John Clements, Ralph Richardson, June Duprez
This ‘boy’s own’ tale of derring-do is based on the novel by AEW Mason, in which a young man is driven to prove his mettle after being branded a coward for refusing to fight in the Sudanese war. Shooting on location with unwieldy Technicolor cameras was an incredible undertaking that demonstrates Alexander Korda’s ambition and risk-taking as a producer.
