Synopsis

To commemorate Remembrance Day and to coincide with the publishing of The Motherland Calls – Britain’s Black Servicemen & Women 1939-45 (The History Press), this illustrated talk looks at the often under-recognised contribution of Britain’s black servicemen and women during World War Two. Author Stephen Bourne will also introduce two BBC documentaries: Here-Say (BBC2, tx 7 August 1990), a discussion programme with black veterans from the two world wars; and Birthrights (Reunion) (BBC2 tx 5 July 1993) which looks at the recruitment of West Indian women into the British army in WWII.

Event is free to over-60s; otherwise tickets are at normal matinee price.
