Barrister and politician Shami Chakrabarti introduces Sarah Gavron’s powerful drama, which follows Maud Watts (Mulligan), a young laundry worker who becomes involved in the women’s suffrage movement in 1912. As a result of her campaigning, Maud soon suffers a number of injustices which only strengthen her resolve to ensure that their demands are listened to, and that changes will be made.
