Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave play two friends who are drawn into the anti-fascist movement in Berlin during WWII.
Dir Fred Zinnemann
With Jane Fonda, Vanessa Redgrave, Jason Robards
A rare chance to see two great actor-activists in this controversial adaptation. Vanessa Redgrave plays firebrand Julia, drawn into the anti-fascist movement in Berlin during WWII, while her childhood friend Lillian (Fonda) climbs the US literary ladder. When Julia asks her to smuggle money to the resistance, Lillian’s courage is tested. Off screen, the pair maintained a life-long friendship, with Fonda calling Redgrave the friend, idol and mentor who ‘put starch in her spine.’
