We premiere the holy grail of silent horror films, now beautifully restored in a tinted print by Robert Byrne, who says of the film that it ‘defies categorisation.’ Part-WWI propaganda, part-revenge drama, this film is genuinely shocking in its graphic violence. Wallace Beery is menacing as the German U-boat captain who ‘gives’ the wife of Oscar Krug, a taxidermist, to his sex-starved men. It’s not going to end well...

Live piano accompaniment by Neil Brand.
