A pair of New Yorkers begin an online relationship, oblivious to the fact that in the wider world they are business rivals in a competitive commercial battle. The closer they become in their emails, the more rancorous their ‘real life’ encounters become. Hanks and Ryan’s third on-screen pairing – and their second with Nora Ephron, following Sleepless in Seattle – proved to be a huge box-office hit and is a joyous evocation of the Big Apple.

‘It gives me that nostalgia and longing for New York in the 1990s.’
