In the Middle Ages, as a terrible plague lays siege to Florence, a group of young people flee from the city to the countryside. There, in the safety of their new home, they tell stories. Within this loose framework, the Tavianis adapt Boccaccio’s masterly Decameron into a film that is, by turns, tragic, romantic and ribaldly humorous.
