The Women of Italian Neorealism
Actors Anna Magnani and Silvana Mangano, alongside screenwriter Suso Cecchi D’Amico, are some of the Italian neorealist figures considered in two richly illustrated presentations.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, film critic Christina Newland is unable to join us for this event. We apologise for any disappointment. Professor Catherine O'Rawe will incorporate the discussion of Anna Magnani’s work into her presentation.
- Total running time 90min
Join us for a discussion about the women of Italian neorealism, from the actors on screen to those working behind the camera. Professor Catherine O’Rawe will explore the women who started out via unorthodox means, from beauty queens like Silvana Mangano to the non-professionals of Visconti’s La terra trema. And Senior Research Associate Carla Mereu Keating will discuss the trajectories of women involved in production, including screenwriter Suso Cecchi D’Amico.
Ticket £6.50.
Joint ticket available with the screening of Bellissima on Tuesday 4 June 20:35 £16, concessions £13 (Members pay £2 less).
