An entomologist collecting insects is tricked by villagers into lodging for the night in a sandpit inhabited by an attractive but inarticulate woman, and he soon realises he may be trapped... This erotically charged, intriguingly allegorical drama, stylishly shot in black and white to stress the tactile physicality of skin, sweat and sand, benefits from the jagged, meticulously textured score by Tôru Takemitsu.
