When a grouchy old academic (Sjöström, marvellous) decides to drive from Stockholm to Lund to receive an award, he little suspects that the journey – together with his unhappily married daughter-in-law – will make him reassess his family, his past and his view on life. Arguably Bergman’s warmest film, Wild Strawberries pays tribute to the beauty of nature and the energetic follies of youth.
