Samuel Fuller’s powerful exploration of racism as conditioning centres on an animal trainer trying to ‘cure’ an attack dog.
Dir Samuel Fuller
With Kristy McNichol, Paul Winfield, Burl Ives, Dick Miller
Samuel Fuller’s greatest film deals with racism in the form of an Alsatian adopted by a young woman after her car hits it; when she discovers it’s been trained to attack black skin, she asks an animal trainer to try to decondition the animal. The turmoil treated here is not only the dog’s but the world’s: the film exudes both compassion and anger.
