Elderly sisters Libby (Davis) and Sarah (Gish) spend their annual holiday at the Maine seaside where they reminisce about their lives and reflect on some of the resentments and misunderstandings that have come between them. The film boasts a quartet of Hollywood’s finest actors, all delivering exceptional performances, and with British director Lindsay Anderson at the helm it’s an assured, charming piece that was a virtual swansong for all of them.
