Certificate 15

In one of the greatest film portraits of a painter, Pialat puts aside the art, avoids all temptation to indulge in melodrama, and focuses on a troubled, lonely man in his final months dealing with his brother, his doctor and the various women in his life. Dutronc’s exceptional performance as Vincent is placed within a totally convincing recreation of southern France in 1890.
