Library Event
New Writings from the UK Asian Film Festival
A panel discussion looking at two recent publications focussing on Indian cinema.

- Total running time 75min
This book launch spotlights two stellar publications that appraise India’s monumental Parallel Cinema movement (1968-95) and the contemporary new wave of Indian Indies, which have carved a singular niche distinct from mainstream commercial Bollywood. This conversation charts seminal moments, creative luminaries, and pathbreaking films from Parallel Cinema and new Indian Indie cinema constellations. The discussion will be chaired by Dr Ashvin Devasundaram (Reader in Global Cinemas, Queen Mary University of London), whose influential book trilogy has established a new research sub-discipline on contemporary independent Indian cinema. Panellists include Dr Omar Ahmed (Writer, Film Curator), Dr Jayjit Sarkar (Assistant Prof, Raiganj University), Dr Anik Sarkar (Assistant Prof, SRM University, Sikkim) and Dr Toyeba Mushtaq (Project Manager, Tongues on Fire – UK Asian Film Festival).
