TV News and News Websites: a GCSE Study Day
Fri 9 Mar 2018 10:30 – 15:30
NFT1, BFI Southbank
This event is intended for teachers and students only.
News is available on a wide range of platforms in the digital media landscape, including television, the internet via prerecorded and live stream videos; a breadth of news websites and a variety of social media platforms. This Eduqas GCSE study day focuses on investigating news in relation to media language, genre, audience and audience appeals but also relevant institutional factors such as scheduling and ownership. Planning News Websites will look at format and purpose, focusing on the practical planning requirements of the exam by studying multiple platform news providers e.g. the BBC, ITV News and Channel 4 News but also stand-alone online news platforms like The Huffington Post. Students will look at TV news and News Websites through the lens of: text, organisation and audience, prompting focused debate and reflection on the convergent nature of media. A resource pack based on the case studies will be available on the day. The afternoon will be rounded off with a Q&A with an industry professional
