Senegal 1973
Dir Djibril Diop Mambéty
With Magaye Niang, Myriam Niang, Aminata Fall
English subtitles

Djibril Diop Mambéty’s fantasy-drama playfully and profoundly reflects post-colonial Dakar – the muddle of enduring cultural influences, its style and youthful rebellion. Young lovers Mory and Anta hatch wildly adventurous and indulgent schemes to facilitate their escape to glamorous Paris. This daring film is widely regarded as a philosophical and aesthetic wellspring for global African visual culture, from screen to stage to fashion editorial.

Restored in 2008 by The World Cinema Foundation at Cineteca di Bologna/L’Immagine Ritrovata in association with the family of Djibril Diop Mambéty. Restoration funding provided by Armani, Cartier, Qatar Airways and Qatar Museum Authority.
